Katlang topaz is transparent to translucent and range from colorless to hot pink, crystals are pleochroic, moving from yellow to pink violet as the orientation of the crystal is changed.
Origin
The pink color of Katlang topaz is due to impurities in the crystal structure of the mineral. The topaz crystals were formed over millions of years by geologic processes that took place in the Earth’s depths.
Location
The topaz is found in a small hillock of recrystallized limestone north of Katlang. The crystals are encased in narrow calcite veins, along with larger amounts of reddish brown, tan, and colorless topaz crystals.
Characteristics
The topaz has a rich pink-lavender color, superb luster, and gemminess. It is cool to the touch and gets electrified easily.
Hardness
A real topaz will scratch glass, while quartz will not leave a mark Iion it.
